Jim & Nancy Berg’s Legacy Builder Story

IMG_43_0320Our first experience at Camp was at the invitation of Pastor Walter Schoedel, who was our Pastor at Concordia Kirkwood Lutheran Church and a Dean at Camp.  That was in 1982, and we have been at Camp nearly every summer since.

The love for Lake Michigan and its shores began for Nancy as a child when her family spent their summers in a family cottage in Grand Haven,MI.  Jim spent his summers at a Lutheran Family Camp in the Missouri Ozarks.  Camp Arcadia was the perfect marriage of the two childhood experiences.

Pinpointing a special moment or event is difficult because there are so many.  Walking up the sidewalk from the Cottage Colony and seeing the lake across the tennis courts brings a feeling of coming home.  Although, I must admit that the Hula-Hoop acts in the Camper’s Talent Show are a special favorite.  This exemplifies how beautifully Camp Arcadia provides a risk free atmosphere for kids to grow and develop confidence.  And it does make us laugh!

We decided to include Camp in our estate as Legacy Builders through a Thrivent Insurance Policy for the same reason we decided to build a cottage in the Cottage Colony.  We wanted to give our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and future family members the gift of Camp.  Camp Arcadia is the perfect place to develop Christian friendships, explore and grow in the Word and have your faith nurtured.  We cannot imagine a greater gift to give to those we love.
