Summer Staff Myth Busters #1

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to break down a few myths about serving on Camp Arcadia’s Summer Staff. Serving at Camp for the summer isn’t about “giving up” a summer or “missing out” on opportunities – it’s a “can’t miss” experience that’s valuable for our seasonal staff – personally AND professionally!

Myth #1: "I can't work at Camp because I need networking opportunities this summer!"

Anne May, Camp Arcadia Summer Staff 2024, helps us bust this myth.

How did Camp Arcadia play a role in helping you take your next steps in school or the workforce?

Working on Camp Arcadia’s summer staff helped me develop relationships with others and improve my work ethic, which are critical traits for success in school, internships, and jobs. Connections and relationships are key to finding a job or getting interviewed. Working at Camp taught me a lot about making connections, which has led me to many new opportunities.

Why do you think your work at Camp Arcadia stood out on your resume?

Having Camp Arcadia on my resume stood out to all the companies I interviewed with. Interviewers asked what my role was at Camp, and they were interested in the type of work I did. They often were impressed by the busy schedule, hard work, leadership, and communication skills that came with working at Camp.

This summer I will be a mechanical engineering intern at Adient, which is an automotive supplier in Metro Detroit. I got connected to this company through a guest I met while serving in the dining room!
