Myth #2: "I can't work at Camp because I won't know anyone else on Summer Staff!"

What did you know about Camp Arcadia before you applied to serve on staff?
I knew almost nothing about Camp Arcadia before I applied, except that it was a Lutheran based summer camp for all ages in Michigan. My parents had both served on staff at different Lutheran summer camps, so I heard about it through the NLOMA camp portal. Camp Arcadia was one of several Lutheran camps that I considered, so I can’t help feeling lucky that I ended up there!
Joining the Summer Staff when I had never been to Camp was like every day being a new surprise. Waking up every day to God’s beauty along Lake Michigan was always a surprise in itself, along with all the new traditions I got to learn.
What would you tell someone who’s thinking about applying, but nervous they won’t know anyone?
If you’re nervous about applying because you won’t know anyone on staff, I encourage you to go for it anyway. There are so many people eager to get to know you and help you. You may enter knowing no one, but you will leave with an entire family of your fellow staffers.
