Lutherhostel

What to Expect

Lutherhostel is a late-August retreat for older adults (usually 65+, but not always!) arriving Saturday afternoon and departing on Thursday after lunch. Enjoy typical Camp Arcadia activities – singing and the Dean’s Program in the morning, tournaments like shuffleboard and bocce, and time for crafting, card games and fellowship each day – in addition to afternoon off-site trips (including transportation) which are organized for your enjoyment. Don’t forget the Salt City Dixie Jazz Band performance or the evening worship services to cap off wonderful, fun-filled days at Camp!

Practicing Our Last Steps on the Way to Dying

Everyone is on the path to dying, with some of us closer than others, but as baptized people we tread that Way with Jesus. Each New Testament gospel gives us a unique way to hear and see the promise of what awaits us in our daily dying and rising with Christ. Their accounts of Jesus’ last steps and closing conversations are especially rich and revealing.

Rev. Dr. Fred Niedner taught biblical studies in Valparaiso University’s Theology Department for 40 years and currently serves as Senior Research Professor.

Ecclesiastes – A Few Drops Into the Well of Faith

“Ecclesiastes is a beaker filled with earthly elements: The passage of time, life’s beauty and limitations, divine silence, the consolations and confusions of our allotted days on earth, the poetry of the human condition. A few drops from Ecclesiastes’ beaker into the well water of faith are a healthy thing,” says writer Ray Waddle. We will sprinkle more than a few drops into the well of faith as we take a deep dive into Ecclesiastes.
