While much of northern Michigan was inside and out of the rain on a very chilly Wednesday afternoon, the staffers of Camp Arcadia were doing quite the opposite.
Throughout the day, as weather conditions worsened, staffers arrived one by one, ready for a summer of fellowship, faith, and fun!
The 2013 management staff, who arrived a few days earlier than the rest of the staff, eagerly awaited the arrival of the new staffers. This year’s staff is home to college students from a variety of places, from California to North Carolina, Texas to Pennsylvania, and everywhere in between! But despite their long journeys and the inclement weather, the move-in process was simple and upbeat.
“I was expecting mass chaos with lots of people running around,” said Zach Neff, a first-time program staffer from South Carolina. “I was also expecting nice weather!”
Although camp is always a fun place to be, the atmosphere is much different with dozens of staffers around.
“I got here a night earlier than most. I got a very warm welcome, but I was excited for everyone else to get here too,” said another first-year program staffer, Christian Ludwig of North Carolina.
For both returning staff members and those who will be working at camp for the first time, participating on staff has many benefits.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing how God will bring us together as a staff and help us grow,” said returning staffer and this summer’s Assistant Program Director Rachel Brighton of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
For new members, it can be difficult to know what to expect throughout the camp process.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting a lot of new people and learning about myself,” said Neff.
With the majority of staffers now moved in, it has become clear that this summer holds the promise of everything campers love about Arcadia, even the occasional rainy day.
