Serving on Fall Staff

Have you always wanted to work on staff, but cannot commit to a whole summer? Are you interested in serving God by serving others?  People from retirement age to high school join the ranks of our Fall Staff to make the Camp Arcadia vacation possible for so many people. Working the Fall Season can be a very a rewarding experience. It’s exhausting, uplifting, fun, and challenging.  Positions are available in: program, kitchen, housekeeping, office, and caretaker’s assistant.

“Fall season is a great time to build friendships with both the regular and fall staff. I really enjoy working in the kitchen as I always learn something new.  It’s hard work but fun. The food is excellent.  We get to experience the transitional end of summer beginning of fall days. It is really spectacular time at Arcadia. But the best of all is returning to work with the staff and volunteers who consistently welcome all who come to help out. Housing

Staff are housed in the staff quarters in the second story of the Wigwam building. These rooms are set up to have between 2 to 6 roommates per room. The rooms are equipped with single beds and bunk beds, hanging & dresser space for each person, and sinks and mirrors. Down the hall are bathrooms/showers. How many people are in each room will be based on the number and gender of our staff. Married couples will be housed together.

Work Department

While most of our positions are in dining services and housekeeping, and laundry, we also have a few positions available in program leadership, maintenance, and office responsibilities. The Work Schedule

Our typical dining services workday begins at 6:15 A.M. There are breaks for meals and a short morning break. Most days the staff has a break in the afternoon from around 2:00 P.M. till 4:45 P.M. They then work until around 8:00 P.M. with a break for dinner. The rest of the evening is yours, except if you work that evening in the Trading Post serving ice cream (you will usually work twice a week). Other staff members work similar hours. It is a lot of work, but it is also a rewarding way to serve God – and I hope a lot of fun too!

Dates

The Fall Season runs from August 13th through the middle of October. Below are the various retreats that will require Fall Staff. You may work for a few weeks or just a weekend. Staff that stay between weekend retreats are paid for their work during the week, which is in addition to the weekend salary. Also, there is usually two days off during the week between weekend retreats for staff to explore the area.

Family Weeks:

  • Dates: August 11 – 18 and August 18 – 24
  • Arrival & Departure: Saturday by 2 P.M.
  • Pay: $150/week including room, board & tips.

Lutherhostel Week (guests are adults age 50+):

  • Dates: August 25– 31
  • Arrival & Departure: Saturday by 2 P.M.
  • Pay: $150/week including room, board & tips.

Labor Day Family Weekend:

  • Dates: Friday, August 31 – Monday, Sept 3
  • Arrival & Departure: Arrive on Friday afternoon by 2 P.M. and depart any time after 3 P.M. Monday.
  • Pay: $125 plus room, board, & tips.

Men’s Retreat:

  • Dates: Thursday, Sept 6 – Sunday, Sept 9
  • Arrival & Departure: Arrive Thursday afternoon and depart Sunday afternoon.
  • Pay: $125 plus room, board, and tips.

Women’s Retreat Weekend I:

  • Dates: Friday, Sept 14 – Sunday, Sept 16
  • Arrival & Departure: Arrive in the morning or early afternoon of Friday and depart around 3 P.M. on Sunday.
  • Pay: $100 plus room, board & tips.

Deacons’ Retreat

  • Dates: Sunday, Sept 16 – Tuesday, Sept 18
  • Arrival & Departure: Arrive in the early afternoon of Sunday and depart around 3 P.M. Tuesday.
  • Pay: $100 plus room, board & tips.

Women’s Retreat Weekend II:

  • Dates: Friday, Sept 21 – Sunday, Sept 23
  • Arrival & Departure: Arrive in the morning or early afternoon of Friday and depart around 3 P.M. on Sunday.
  • Pay: $100 plus room, board & tips.

Couples Weekend Getaway

  • Dates: Friday October 12 – Sunday Oct. 14
  • Arrival & Departure: Arrive in the morning or early afternoon of Friday and depart around 3 P.M. on Sunday.
  • Pay: $100 plus room, board & tips.
