Volunteer Weekends

Opening of Camp Work Weekend: May 25 – 28, 2012

This weekend is the traditional Memorial Day Work Weekend to open up Camp. We will place patio furniture, remove snow fence, take down the shutters, make repairs, vacuum bed mattresses, rake and shovel sand, and prepare staff quarters. We will do a thorough cleaning of the kitchen and Trading Post, and wash lots of windows. There’s always painting and tons of cleaning to be done. We will need about 100 volunteers. The summer staff orientation begins on Sunday evening, so they will be arriving all weekend and this is a good chance to get to know them.

Closing Camp Work Weekend: Date: TBA

Join us to help close Camp for the season. We will put away patio furniture, put up snow fence, put on the shutters, make repairs, vacuum bed frames and mattresses, do some mending, and finish the laundry. We will do a final cleaning of the kitchen and store things that might freeze. We’ll have time to get together for eating, singing and worship!

Volunteers are housed in the Inn. When you arrive, a chart on the linen counter will indicate which room has been reserved for you. We will have a Saturday evening worship at camp to allow us to work on Sunday. Attire for the weekend is “work clothes”. It may be cool in the buildings, so bring warm layers of clothing. Please bring your own linens (or sleeping bags), blankets, pillows, towels and washcloths, and your favorite tools.

Please notify us ASAP if you would like to attend. Indicate your times of arrival and departure and the names of those who will be coming with you.

Work weekends are a great way to become involved in Camp’s ministry. You will leave with good memories and a feeling of accomplishment. Become part of the long history of Arcadians that have pitched in to help Camp Arcadia survive and thrive over the years.
